During my career as a professional track and field athlete and scholar at the University of Connecticut, I obtained my Masters degree in Communications in 2017 and was one of the first female members of UCONN Collective Uplift, an organization formed for the holistic development of student-athletes of color. During this time, I dedicated my time and research to understanding the media representation and psychology of female athletes of color. After obtaining my Masters degree, I moved to the state of Florida where I continued my career as a professional athlete and started my career as an author with SPRINT DREAMS, my adult contemporary novel with a young adult crossover appeal. The story, set to release in 2020, is about a collegiate athlete striving to become All-American while stumbling over personal obstacles. As a volunteer grant writer for The WonderSeed Foundation and a member of Romance Writers of America, The International Women’s Writing Guild and Golden Crown Literary Society, I intend to use my writing abilities to address social issues regarding members of misrepresented or underrepresented groups.
